Originally envisioned as “Eclipse” by Cala Developments, the project began with plans for a 22-storey tower complemented by a 12-storey wing, designed to deliver over 260 luxury apartments. However, the project changed hands in 2007, when Velocity Estates took over, redesigning the scheme with the help of Sheffield-based AXIS Architecture.

The new design introduced a sleek glass façade, enhanced environmental features including rooftop wind turbines, and a reimagined layout to meet updated city planning standards. Although plans for a 30-storey expansion and an additional tower were proposed, construction currently stands at 22 completed storeys.

Despite being partially completed, Velocity Tower officially opened to residents in December 2008.
